Many of our students are boarding on-site and some of our sports, arts and outdoor programs take place in later afternoons and Saturdays to offer the best opportunities for student engagement. We adopt a student-centered approach in and outside of the classroom. Teachers need to work with a team of school counselors and youth advisors to provide a rich curricular and co-curricular program, guiding and supporting students and in regular contact with parents.

BOARDING ADVISORS

Be a mentor and role model

Boarding at Bodwell is not just room and board for its students.  It is a partner of Bodwell's academic program, designed to engage students beyond the classroom. Life skills, physical activity, and social interaction are vital for balanced, healthy student life.  Youth advisors are essential facilitators for this balance, by mentoring students and participating with them in a range of activities meant to challenge students to reach their highest potential.

SATURDAY ENRICHMENT TEACHERS

Educate and inspire International Students

Saturday Enrichment is a set of engaging and hands-on courses which allow all Bodwell students opportunity to expand their learning and to gain "real-world" knowledge. These courses also provide students to further strengthen their English language skills, towards the aim of studying in university or pursuing ambitious careers. All students attend three hours of enrichment classes every Saturday morning. Students are guided to select and register for Saturday courses each term, which are included in the report card. Students enrol in a Saturday course each term in one of the following areas: English Language Enrichment & Academic and English Preparation, Service & Global Citizenship, Career & Post- Secondary Exposure, Outdoor Education & Sports, New Media and Performing Arts.

STUDENT COUNSELLORS

Supporting students on their unique paths

Being away from home and adjusting to a new environment, in addition to keeping up with the rigours of academic life can be a lot to handle.  Bodwell's school counsellors are there to provide guidance and to be an attentive listener to students.  Our counselling staff hail from different areas of the world, speak the languages of our international student body, and understand their cultural contexts.

Korean-English Bilingual Counsellor

We are seeking a Korean-English Bilingual Counsellor starting in June 2021.

Bodwell High School, a private boarding school founded in 1991 and located on the waterfront of North Vancouver, offers grades 8-12 to students from over 40 countries. Our High School has a unique, comprehensive, and boarding program with a small homestay program, that fosters the growth of active learners and well-rounded citizens who contribute positively to the world. We are looking for a Korean & English bilingual school Counsellor to join a team of nine multi-lingual counsellors. The position will become available as soon as the right candidate is found.

The primary duties are to:

  • provide academic guidance and university application assistance
  • offer social and emotional guidance mainly for international students - act as an intermediary between the school and parents
  • update student information on our database
  • collaborate with teachers, boarding advisors, coaches and administrators.

The successful candidate must:

  • be fluent in English and Korean in both verbal and written form
  • possess a degree in social work, education, counselling psychology, educational counselling, ESL or other relevant disciplines
  • be able to work professionally, independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • illustrate values such as kindness, empathy and honesty
  • have a passion for working with youth and exhibit excellent communication skills
  • be comfortable with Microsoft programs and social media applications.

It would be an asset if the candidate:

  • have travelled or lived in Korea and is familiar with the education and social-cultural context of Korea
  • can assist with post-secondary guidance and admissions
  • is familiar with the BC K-12 system
  • has had experience working with high school students, or other youth services.

ADMINISTRATORS

Whether it be in the front office or the back, administrators are the operational life's blood of running an international school.  With so many diverse contexts and requirements, Bodwell's administrators need to be organized, efficient, and focused.  Good administration means less headaches for students and parents, and more concentration on fulfilling a great academic and cultural education.

Registration Officer

Bodwell High School started in 1991 on the beautiful Harborside Waterfront in North Vancouver.  It has a capacity of 600 in grades 8 to 12 for day and international students, and an attractive boarding facility. The Registration Officer is mainly responsible for student admission processing, following up with fee collection and future re-registration. This post-holder works a Client Response Management (CRM) system and needs to be strong in written and digital communication.  Due to increased application and enrollment, we look to invite a new member to our registration team:

Duties include:

  1. Handling email and phone enquiries from students, parents, and education consultants
  2. Checking and updating application documents to ensure the completeness and accuracy of information provided
  3. Communicating with students and parents to assist their application
  4. Providing information of our school and linking other resources that will be helpful to students and parents
  5. Explaining and confirming fees received
  6. Issuing documentations for admission offer and study permit application and issuing future invoices for continuous fee payments.

Qualifications required:

  1. A two-year post-secondary diploma and a minimum of one-year experience in related fields or services
  2. Accurate with numbers and written texts with good attention to details
  3. Have effective communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Works independently as well as through a team-work approach
  5. Comfortable and thrive in a diverse ethnic-cultural work environment
  6. Experienced and efficient with database system, MS Office, basic accounting, reporting and computer/ electronic skills
  7. Experienced and dependable with student and parents’ personal information, conscientious with privacy and confidentiality issues
  8. Immediate available is preferred

Experience in CRM administration will be a strong advantage. Compensation will be commensurate with applicant qualifications and experience.

Applications Developer - Programmer Analyst (PHP/MS-SQL/JS/HTML)

JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for the development and ongoing management of custom-built applications and websites supporting both back-end processes for school administration and client-facing web/mobile applications. Candidate must have a minimum of 4~5 years of business applications development experience using PHP, JavaScript, MS SQL Server, and other modern web application frameworks. Involvement in projects will consist of analysis, design, build, testing, deployment, and operations of small to medium scale business applications, with the main focus on the building and testing stage of a project lifecycle.

 

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·    Collaborate with our software development team to redesign and redevelop a ColdFusion web application in PHP framework.

·    Interpret written business requirements and functional specification documents

·    Consult with systems analyst/designer and users to clarify program intent, identify problems, and suggest changes

·    Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of design

·    Perform coding to functional design specifications

·    Generation of test cases, troubleshooting, fixing bugs, and handling change requests

·    Modify existing software to apply changes, or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance.

·    Investigate, analyze and fix identified defects, perform maintenance programming

·    Support database management, maintain database tables, data extraction, and data cleansing

·    Participate in various projects to continually improve and upgrade school’s information systems

·    Perform other related duties as assigned

 

IMPACT/CONTACTS

·    Significant impact on operations, resources, or school’s reputation. Consequences of error could translate to downtimes of mission-critical systems/applications and client-facing websites.

·    This position requires frequent contact with the systems analyst/designer, database administrator, network/server administrator, and other IT staff members for collaborative tasks. Reports to the Systems Analyst and/or Director of IT. Normally performs regular assignments using own judgment and following school’s standard process and policy, while keeping supervisor informed as necessary. Receives general guidance on new projects as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
