Just under 2 weeks ago, Bodwell completed the last game of their most successful season ever. Under the guidance of the legendary coach Mr. Graham and the ever-enthusiastic Mr. Naismith, the Bruins managed to get some silverware (or in the case of high schools, banners) to bring back home to the gym.
Bodwell finished the season unbeaten in regular time apart from two narrow losses in finals. The first was a 4-3 loss to Argyle in the championship playoff between the winners of the AA and AAA North Shore leagues (AA and AAA are classifications of size of high schools based on number of students with AA being smaller). In addition, there was an excruciating 2-1 defeat in the final of the BC provincials against Victoria’s St. Michael’s University, in which they were leading with around 15 minutes to play.
However, this was a season to remember. Bodwell won the North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSSAA) AA league for the first time. The team was represented by players from Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and South Korea according to coach Graham. They met for the first time in early September for trials and then trained and played together for just over 2 months to achieve so much in such a short space of time. Congratulations to the players, coaches and fans.
